Article: Status update of a promising Internet market in Turkey

August 18th, 2008 Comments(0)

Our Country Manager Turkey, Şekip Can Gökalp, wrote an article as a guest blogger on thenextweb.org. In “Turkey: a status update of a promising Internet market” Şekip gives an overview on the Internet and startup scene in Turkey and describes some of the turkish web2.0ish services.

“Let’s take a look at Turkey. With an estimated Internet penetration of 37%, Turkey has a total Internet user amount of 26 million people. You can find more to it in this study of Sina Afra from Ebay. I wish to give an introduction to this newly blooming market, which, I think, should be on the list of every company who has the goal to be successful on a global scale.”

He concludes that “Turkey will be one of the most important markets in Europe” and that this development will lead to better services which will focus on social networks and social shopping. Since we launched a Turkish version of mixxt in July, we won’t be too unhappy if his forecast would come true :)

After our successful launch in Poland in May this year, mixxt made a further step towards internationalisation and expanded into Turkey. Şekip Can Gökalp, our Turkish Country Manager, is responsible for increasing the awareness of mixxt, the development and support of the Turkish community as well as the care of our business customers. Because of several years of experience within the range of marketing and Social Networks in Turkey, he has established excellent relations throughout the Turkish market and comments on our launch:

“Social Networking is one of the hottest topics in the Web for Turkey. The community kit mixxt as a first-mover offers the ideal tool for all niches in Turkey and will be very successful in a short time. I am glad to support the mixxt team with the internationalisation.”

“Turkey is one of the fastest-growing markets and even the big players in our sector are just discovering it right now. The key is to be local & first-mover. We are pleased that our Social Network kit is so well accepted here straight away and are happy to welcome a network for a large gothic magazine (karakalem.mixxt.com) as well as one for the promotion of Turkish startups (etohum.mixxt.com) on our plattform.” founder and CEO Oliver Ueberholz says.

Webrazzi for example, which can be compared with techcrunch, posted an article about mixxt as a competitor to ning and grou.ps. Erhan Erdoğan of Webrazzi writes in his post “I appreciate right startups coming to Turkey with the right local professionals working for them.”

With German, English, Polish and Turkish, mixxt is now ‘quadrilingual’, or – to be precise – offers four and a half languages, as a formal German is additionally available in order to meet the requirements of our corporate customers and formal events. More than 1,500 network founders have already created their community. Why don’t you give it a try? It’s easy, fast and fun!
